    William Shakespeare was baptised on 26 April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language, he produced 39 plays and 154 sonnets across a career spent mostly in London with the theatre company that became the King's Men, ranging from history plays and comedies to the tragedies Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello and King Lear. The Widget Shakespeare Collection, listed here, gathers eleven of his plays together with four companion dictionaries.

    Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616 in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he had retired some years earlier.
