Thomas B. Allen was born on 20 March 1929 and educated at the University of Bridgeport. He worked for many years as a contributing editor at National Geographic and wrote more than twenty-five books of military and intelligence history, often in collaboration with the historian Norman Polmar, alongside other non-fiction including Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism. War Games, listed here, draws on documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act to examine the Pentagon's use of computer simulations to model nuclear conflict.
Allen died on 11 December 2018 in Bethesda, Maryland, at the age of 89.
