Daniël François (D.F.) Malherbe (1881–1969) was a leading Afrikaans poet, dramatist, novelist and scholar, born on 28 May 1881, who helped establish Afrikaans as a cultural language. He is remembered above all for his prose and for Vergeet-nie, regarded as the first Afrikaans novel of real artistic value. Die bergstroom ruis (1940), listed here, is the first part of his Trekker trilogy, followed by Vlam van die suurveld (1943) and En die wawiele rol (1945).
Malherbe died on 12 April 1969.
