Iris Johansen is an American novelist, born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1938, who began in romance and moved into crime and suspense fiction, becoming a fixture of the New York Times bestseller lists. The Face of Deception, published in 1998, introduced Eve Duncan, a forensic sculptor who rebuilds the faces of the unidentified dead in the hope of finding her own missing daughter. It launched a series that now runs to more than thirty books and has sold over twenty million copies. Her other work includes the historical Wind Dancer trilogy and the Kendra Michaels thrillers, written with her son Roy Johansen.
As of 2026 Johansen is still publishing: Wait and See, the twelfth Kendra Michaels novel, appeared in June 2026. She lives in Georgia, USA.
