Lorraine Botha, born Lorraine Anna Gouws on 7 November 1915 in Port Elizabeth, studied Latin, Afrikaans-Dutch and English at the University of Cape Town before later earning an honours degree and a master's in Greek through the University of South Africa. She worked as a translator in the civil service and as an editor for a correspondence college, and wrote plays and novels exploring marriage and conscience, among them Lang skaduwees (1943) and Die keuse (1947). Net vir Hulle?, listed here, appeared in 1946.
