Michael Palmer was born in 1943 and trained in internal medicine in Boston, going on to practise medicine for around twenty years, including work with the Massachusetts Medical Society's physician health programme. He wrote eighteen novels of medical suspense translated into thirty-five languages, among them Extreme Measures, adapted into a 1996 film starring Hugh Grant. Miracle Cure, listed here, centres on a dangerous new heart drug at a prestigious Boston hospital.
Palmer died on 30 October 2013, following a heart attack.
