Pw Grobbelaar

Pieter W. Grobbelaar was born on 25 December 1930 in Bloemfontein. He worked as a teacher, journalist and SABC broadcaster before becoming a publishing editor at Tafelberg and, from 1970, professor of Afrikaans Culture and Folklore at Stellenbosch University, heading the department from 1982 to 1995. He became one of the foremost collectors and documenters of Afrikaans folklore, folk tales and songs, work recognised with the C.P. Hoogenhout Prize in 1968 and the Tienie Holloway Medal in 1971. Man van die Volk, listed here, is a photographic tribute he compiled to the South African prime minister H.F. Verwoerd.

Grobbelaar died on 19 January 2013.
