Stephen Gallagher was born on 13 October 1954 in Salford, England, and studied drama and English at the University of Hull. He worked in television before becoming a novelist and screenwriter, writing for Doctor Who in the early 1980s and later creating the ITV series Eleventh Hour, which was remade for American television, as well as episodes of Rosemary & Thyme and Silent Witness. His novels include Chimera, adapted for both radio and television, and the Sebastian Becker series; Red Red Robin, listed here, is a work of psychological suspense. He has won the British Fantasy Award and been nominated for the Bram Stoker and World Fantasy awards.
As of 2026 Gallagher continues to publish, with several novels released in the past few years.
