Stuart Woods was born on 9 January 1938 in Manchester, Georgia. After a career in advertising and roughly a decade living in England and Ireland, he published his first novel, Chiefs, in 1981, which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel; he went on to write more than eighty books, most of them centred on his recurring hero Stone Barrington, and was for years a competitive offshore sailor and a licensed pilot. Palindrome, listed here, is a mystery following a battered wife's escape into a new life.
Woods died on 22 July 2022 at his home in Washington, Connecticut, at the age of 84.
