Stewart L. Tubbs was born on 6 September 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, and earned degrees in biological sciences and communication before completing a doctorate in communication and organisational behaviour at the University of Kansas. He taught at what became Kettering University, at Boise State University, and for many years at Eastern Michigan University, where he held an endowed professorship of leadership and later served as dean of the College of Business. With Sylvia Moss he co-wrote Human Communication, listed here, a widely used introductory textbook that ran through more than ten editions, along with a companion volume on interpersonal communication.
Tubbs died on 18 February 2023 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
