Sylvia Moss was born in 1937 and studied at Barnard College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison before earning a master's degree in psychology at Columbia University. She worked as an editor at Random House, where her projects included the Guggenheim Museum publication China 5000 Years, and with Stewart L. Tubbs co-wrote the widely used textbooks Human Communication, listed here, and Interpersonal Communication, both of which went through many editions in university classrooms.
